FAQ - Printing and Saving

Printing and Saving

Q: How do I print the reports in the model?
A: You can print the input and report sheets in the model using two methods:

  • Use the ’Print Sheet’ button located at the top of each report/input page.
  • Go to the ’Estate Master Menu’ and select Print Report Options. Make sure the correct printer has been selected from the File - Print menu.

Q: Can I change the set-up of the printing?
A: The print set-up (print area, margins, paper size, etc) has already been pre-set, however you can alter it at anytime just by using Excel's 'Page Setup' standard function and then printing the report via Excel's standard 'Print' button. If you wish to go back to the default set-up, just ensure you run the 'Default Print Set-up' feature via the Print Report Options on the menu bar.

Q: How do you convert Estate Master into a PDF document?
A:
If you have Adobe Acrobat (Writer not Reader) installed on your PC, then you convert any Estate Master sheet into PDF format. All you have to do is select the sheet you want to convert and click on the 'Convert to PDF' icon on your Excel toolbar (if applicable) or go to File- Print and 'print' the sheet using Acrobat Distiller or Writer as the printer.

Q: How do I save an Estate Master file?
A:  You can only save Estate Master files using the standard Excel Save function:

  • File- Save As
  • File- Save (Ctrl S)

Q: I cannot save the file I have been working on?
A: The most common cause of this is the Users Anti-Virus software. Excel has a peculiar saving process:

  1. Saves to a temporary file.
  2. If OK, deletes the original.
  3. Renames Temp file to filename of original.

If in stage 2 or 3 of this process the virus software starts scanning the TEMP file, Excel’s process gets interrupted and you get the ’file not saved’ message. So try changing the settings of the virus scanner so it doesn’t scan Excel files on save or allows for as longer period of time to scan. Another cause can be that the user does not have delete rights to the directory in question and Excels saving process fails on step 2.
